We had read 4 Du Maurier novels together and My Cousin Rachel is the last of the 4 novels in Bina's compilation. My two favorite veterans: my dad and my uncle Jerry. The story gripped me from the beginning and found it's way into my top books of 2009. My cousin Rachel sent me this email today, in which she perfectly captures everything that is terrible about this time of year. Bina @ifyoucanreadthis has been my Du Maurier reading buddies since last year. I simply did not want to be disappointed. My Cousin Rachel, from 1952, is a suspenseful romantic drama starring Olivia deHavilland and Richard Burton. For twenty four years, Daphne Du Maurier has eluded me, and I'm still trying to figure out how! There's also an excellent film version of this book, but as I write this post, the film is OOP. Calendar-counting-the-omer-BLOG. This brings me to My Cousin Rachel, a book du Maurier published in 1951–13 years after Rebecca. I knew that I had to read more of her books, so when I read the basic plot of My Cousin Rachel, I knew that it would be my next one. I read Rebecca earlier this year, and loved it, which led me to pick up My Cousin Rachel. My cousin, sister-in-law, and great-aunt ♥. Although you could probably make an argument that My Cousin Rachel is packed with characters who tend to have narcissistic (good God, what a word to spell) qualities, I am not going to go down that alley with this critique. I have owned My Cousin Rachel for almost five years now, and I cannot imagine why I took so long to read it.
